Clothkits

Following on from my recent posts on the rise of DIY fashion, there is more evidence every day.

Clothkits are back! The company has been revived by a young business woman who clearly sees the potential for make-it-yourself fashion. For the uninitiated, Clothkits were a British company launched in the early 1970's which sold a kit of everything you needed to make your own garment, including the buttons and thread.

Particularly appealing for children's clothing, the re-launched company offers simple shaped garments like A-line skirts and plain t-shirts which come with their own transfer which you simply iron on. They are even collaborating with artists and textile designers like Rob Ryan, who produces those delicate paper cut stencils, that are screen printed onto the skirt pattern.

It will be interesting to see how many people will buy into it, but considering that sewing machine sales have risen sharply in the last 12 months, it may prove to be successful.
